Korean Giants LG and Samsung to Release Faster Versions of the G3 and ...


For a long time now, we've been hearing about an LG G3 with a Snapdragon 805 as well as 'Prime' version of the Galaxy S5. While the Galaxy F seems to be this mythical 'Prime' that we keep on seeing, the G3 with a Snapdragon 805 is working its way to the market, in South Korea at least. Just like Samsung did last year with the Galaxy S4, both LG and Samsung are to launch new versions of their flagship devices with more powerful Snapdragon 805 in South Korea in order to take advantage of their super fast LTE networks. According to certain sources, these devices could launch as early as July, with the Galaxy S5 LTE-A pegged for a July 19th launch.


LTE-Advanced versions of the Galaxy S5 and LG G3 will be able to hit download speeds of 225mbps thanks to a new modem inside of the 805, which South Korean customers may well see some real benefit, however here in the West there's no call for such a modem, at least not yet. According to Korean press, the LTE-Advanced edition of the Galaxy S5 is to launch with a Snapdragon 805 as well as an 'ultra high-definition' display, which we're assuming to mean a QHD 2560 x 1440 display, rather than a 4K display. Still, we're not so sure that Samsung would change a key spec in their flagship device without making more noise than that.


As for the G3, well, LG likes to take care of their home market pretty well, as their device launches and updates show, so it's no surprise that a faster version of the device is to launch in South Korea. We can't help but wonder if the Snapdragon 805 might be overkill if used to just get some faster LTE transfer speeds, but in the case of the G3, the extra graphical grunt will help push those pixels. This isn't the first time that such a thing has happened in South Korea, as the Galaxy S4 saw an upgrade to the Snapdragon 800 from the Snapdragon 600 to become faster.
