Miranda Lambert's 'Platinum' Is The Only Album That Sold More Than 100K Copies
Miranda Lambert's time has come - to debut atop the Billboard 200 Albums Chart that is! Lambert's latest LP, Platinum easily outclassed the competition (which was little mind you) selling 180,000 copies. After a sub-100K sales week courtesy of Coldplay's Ghost Stories last week (83,000 copies) that was shockingly good enough to keep the set number one, Lambert takes the crown this week with more robust numbers. Unfortunately after Lambert, the wheels sort of fall off; the next closes album, Frozen Soundtrack only manages to sell 52,000 copies.
As for other new albums, 50 Cent reaches the top five once more with a no. 4 bow of Animal Ambition. The numbers for Fiddy are pretty 'wack' though; he only manages to sell 47,000 copies. When's the last time a 50 Cent album sold less that six figures - well you're looking at it my friends. The ceiling for 50's animalistic ambitions is non-existent. Otherwise, albums courtesy of Brantley Gilbert (), Coldplay ( Ghost Stories), and spend another week within the chart's top echelon. They are joined by Led Zeppelin reissues in the back half of the top ten, and of course a popular movie whose soundtrack gets to experience the impact in The Fault in Our Stars. Still, looking at the top ten, only Miranda Lambert seemed to come to play this week.
Next week, there are a number of new albums that should debut on the Billboard 200. That said, the best shot for glory comes courtesy of Jack White's sophomore LP . White debuted at no. 1 with his debut solo album Blunderbuss, which also went on to be nominated for a couple of Grammys. Can White match his previous opening? Unless White's numbers are incredibly below par, he should have a good shot.
