Joe Torre 'feels terrible' he forgot George Steinbrenner in HOF speech
MLB
Joe Torre thanked many people during his 28-minute speech after being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday.
One person he forgot to thank was the one person who hired him and led to his greatest success as a manager: George Steinbrenner.
Torre was apologetic after forgetting to mention the late New York Yankees owner in his induction speech.
'I feel terrible, I'm very upset,' Torre said, via the New York Post. 'I was with Hal [Steinbrenner on Saturday] night and I gave all my accolades. But being with the Yankees, you don't get accepted without George's acceptance. As soon as it was over, I turned around and said, 'I forgot George.''
