Miami Dolphins' Dion Jordan suspended for first four games of season
Miami Dolphins coaches spent much of defensive end Dion Jordan's 2013 season answering why Jordan wasn't on the field more often. That question won't be asked for the first four games of 2014 while Jordan serves a suspension for violating the NFL's policy on performance enhancing substances.
Jordan can participate in preseason practices and games, but won't be on the active roster until Sept. 29, the day after the Dolphins' London game against Oakland.
According to Jordan's team-released statement, he tested positive for a banned stimulant.
'I worked carefully with my advisers and the union to investigate the test results,' Jordan said in the statement, 'and I take full responsibility for the test results.'
Jordan's statement also included an apology for the 'impact of this situation' on his teammates, coaches, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, his fans and family.
'We were disappointed to learn about Dion's suspension,' Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said through the team. 'Dion has accepted responsibility for his actions and is committed to improving, both on and off the field, in preparation for the upcoming year.'
Despite the Dolphins - under the direction of then-general manager Jeff Ireland - moving up in the 2013 draft to take Jordan at No. 3. overall, the staff played the 6-6, 260-pounder sparingly. He finished with 26 tackles and 2 sacks last year. The consensus opinion was he needed to add bulk in the offseason.
This report was supplemented with Miami Herald wire services.

In My Opinion
We mostly forget about our distant sports stars, don't we? They were such a big a part of our past, they entertained us, we cheered them sometimes for years, but then when it's time they don't so much retire as disappear. They are replaced. Faded by degrees. Gone.
Dolphins
The Dolphins on Monday signed veteran offensive lineman Daryn Colledge, whose addition will provide depth and versatility on a unit trying to compensate for the indefinite loss of Pro Bowl center Mike Pouncey.
