UFC Signs Eddie Alvarez To Contract, Will Face Donald Cerrone At UFC 178
Just hours after Bellator MMA announced they had parted ways with Eddie Alvarez, the former lightweight champion had found a new home.
Officials confirmed Alvarez had signed a contract to fight at UFC 178 in September against Donald Cerrone. The bout has been rumored for weeks, but seemed non-existent after Cerrone agreed to face Bobby Green.
Alvarez (25-3) won nine of 10 Bellator fights, including a win last year over Michael Chandler to reclaim the title. He was scheduled to face Chandler for a third time earlier this year, but a training injury postponed the fight.
Cerrone (24-6) has had his hand raised 11 times inside the Octagon. He owns wins a four-fight win streak that includes four 'Fight Night' bonuses and finishes.
Green, now without an opponent, will be rescheduled for a later date.
