Amazon takes on Chromecast with Fire TV Stick

The device connects to the HDMI port on a television and allows users to stream a wide range of content, including Netflix, Prime Instant Video, and Hulu Plus.

Amazon

Amazon is again hitting the home-entertainment space with a new streaming stick designed to take on Google's Chromecast.

Dubbed the Fire TV Stick, the streaming-media device connects to an HDMI port on the back on an HDTV and streams everything from Netflix to Prime Instant Video to Hulu Plus. Owners will also find a wide range of other streaming apps, including Spotify, Vevo, and A&E.

The Fire TV Stick comes less than seven months after Amazon announced its Fire TV streaming set-top box. That device, which is designed to provide both streaming entertainment and gaming, goes for $99. The Fire TV Stick retails for $39. For the next two days only, new and existing Prime customers will be able to pick up the Fire TV Stick for $19.
