Former Major League Baseball slugger Jose Canseco was reportedly injured in an accidental shooting on Tuesday at his home in the Las Vegas Valley.
Canseco was taken to a local hospital after shooting himself in the hand, according to KTNV, the local ABC station.
KLAS-TV said police confirmed an accidental shooting at a home owned by Canseco, but would not say if the former MVP was injured. However, the station reported on Twitter that Canseco was cleaning a gun when he accidentally shot himself in the left hand.
The injury is not life-threatening, according to the New York Daily News.
After winning baseball's Rookie of the Year award in 1986, Canseco went on to hit 462 home runs during a 17-year career that included playing for the Oakland A's, Texas Rangers, Toronto Blue Jays, Tampa Bay Rays (then known as the Devil Rays), New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox.
He also became the face of the game's Steroid Era, writing a tell-all book called ' Juiced' that helped lead to congressional hearings as well as the Mitchell Report and tougher new rules on performance-enhancing drugs.
Canseco has since been involved in reality TV and boxing ventures, and has a highly active Twitter account that has yet to mention the shooting.
