Derrick Rose believes that the Chicago Bulls will win an NBA title soon after the roster moves that they made this offseason.
In an interview after their first practice this season, Rose is not sure whether or not they will win it all in the upcoming 2014-15 NBA season, but he is convinced that his first championship is within reach.
'We know we have an opportunity ahead of us,' Rose said via CBS Chicago. 'It may not be this year, it may not be the next year, whatever. But I know I'm going to win a championship soon.'
The Bulls, who lost to the Washington Wizards in the first round of the 2014 NBA Playoffs, made big moves this offseason to improve their title chances next season.
Chicago signed veteran power forward Pau Gasol to a three-year deal worth $22 million. Gasol is expected to start at power forward after the Bulls released former starter Carlos Boozer, who moved to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Aside from Gasol, the Bulls also signed EuroLeague superstar Nikola Mirotic and selected former Creighton standout Doug McDermott in the 2014 NBA Draft. Chicago also signed free agents Aaron Brooks and E'Twaun Moore.
But while they made roster improvements this offseason, the Bulls' chances of winning the title relies on how healthy Rose will be in the upcoming season.
Rose underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee last season just in his 10th game after recovering from ACL tear in his left knee he sustained during the 2012 NBA Playoffs.
The 25-year-old superstar, who averaged 15.9 points to go along with 4.3 assists and 3.2 rebounds last season, knows that all eyes will be on his health, but he insisted that he is ready to prove his doubters wrong.
'I'm always going to have to answer this question for the rest of my career so I'm not worried about that,' Rose said of questions about his health via ESPN Chicago. 'But for the Bulls fans I could sit here and say a million times that I'll be fine but I think the only way to answer all the critics and everyone asking about me is to actually be on the court and actually playing.'
