Miley Cyrus' VMA date Jesse Helt sentenced to six months in jail
Remember Miley Cyrus' date for the MTV Video Music Awards this year, Jesse Helt? Helt, who accepted her Video of the Year award on her behalf to raise awareness for homeless youth, has been sentenced to six months in prison.
Helt was given a jail sentence for violating his probation stemming from his arrest for criminal mischief and criminal trespass in 2010, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The day after appearing at the VMAs, it was brought to light that Helt was wanted in Oregon. He then turned himself into the Oregon police a few days later. He had been wanted for three years prior to turning himself in for violating his probation by failing to meet with his probation officer after he moved to Los Angeles.
The AP reports Helt told the judge who sentenced him, Judge Monte Campbell, he would 'like to be viewed as a good person, not as a nuisance to society.'
Helt, 22, met the 'Wrecking Ball' singer at a shelter and she is reportedly paying his legal fees.
