Rory McIlroy was playing St. Andrews when he won Player of the Year
The metaphor is tremendous, if not coincidental.
Rory McIlroy was playing St. Andrews on Wednesday when he was named the 2013-14 PGA Tour Player of the Year.
Cool moment of POY/ROY call: Rory was on 18 tee at St. Andrews. Hadley at coffee shop in Raleigh: Hopefully I'll be on 18 w/ Rory next year.

At the outset, it would appear that he's working on winning the 2014-15 POY as well in playing St. Andrews, site of next year's British Open. But really McIlroy is just getting ready for the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship later this week.
McIlroy was the obvious choice for the award as he was the only golfer to win multiple majors this past season. Throw in the Bridgestone and this was pretty much a no-brainer.
Here are the last five PGA Tour Players of the Year:
2014: Rory McIlroy2013: Tiger Woods2012: Rory McIlroy2011: Luke Donald2010: Jim Furyk2009: Tiger Woods
