Lydia Ko signs with IMG Golf for management and marketing

Lydia Ko has signed with management company IMG, the company has announced.

Born in South Korea and raised in New Zealand, the 16-year-old Ko is already No. 4 in the women's world rankings and won the Swinging Skirts World Ladies Masters last week in Taiwan in her second start as a professional. She won the CN Canadian Women's Open at 15 last year to become the youngest winner in tour history and successfully defended the title this year.

'I am excited to work with my new team at IMG as I embark on my professional career,' said Ko in a statement. 'My family and I spoke with many candidates and IMG emerged as the clear choice to represent me, in large part because of their global reach. I am comfortable knowing that IMG will commit the appropriate resources to help my career excel while I focus on golf.'

Ko ''is an incredibly impressive young lady and an astonishing player,'' said Guy Kinnings, global head of golf at IMG, in a statement.

After a dominant amateur career, Ko received an exemption to join the LPGA Tour, where she will play full-time in 2014.

IMG's stable of female golfers also includes Paula Creamer, Michelle Wie, Jessica Korda, Beatriz Recari and Jaye Marie Green, who was runner-up to Ko in the 2012 U.S. Women's Amateur and last week won the LPGA Tour's 2014 Qualifying Tournament in record fashion.
