Ankle surgery for Rangers' Mitch Moreland, will miss at least 3 months

This time it's DH/1B Mitch Moreland, who'll soon undergo left ankle surgery and, according to multiple reports, miss at least the next three months and possibly the remainder of the season.
As Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News writes, Moreland has been battling ankle problems all season and, according to GM Jon Daniels, was no longer able to play through the pain. On that front, it's worth remembering that Prince Fielder's season-ending neck surgery pressed Moreland into regular defensive duty, which surely didn't help.
This season, the 28-year-old Moreland is batting .246/.297/.347 (77 OPS+) in 52 games. For his career, he owns an OPS+ of 98 across parts of five big-league seasons. While the bat has been lacking by positional standards, Moreland does grade out as a defensive asset at first base.
The Rangers already have a fairly staggering list of core contributors currently laid up with major injuries: Fielder, LHP Derek Holland, C Geovany Soto, 2B Jurickson Profar, LHP Matt Harrison, LHP Martin Perez, RHP Alexi Ogando and 3B Kevin Kouzmanoff. Now add Moreland to the heap of misfortune.
