Derek Fisher and Phil Jackson are moving closer to finalizing a deal to make the former Lakers guard the Knicks next head coach, The Daily News has learned.
According to a person close to the negotiations, the Knicks are confident that a deal is imminent. There is a possibility that the club could hold a press conference as earlier as Tuesday to announce the hiring. The timing is crucial since Jackson is headed for Turkey for his son's wedding and a previously planned vacation. The Knicks have yet to announce a press conference.
Ideally, the Knicks would want to schedule the press conference for a day the Rangers are not playing. Tuesday and Thursday are the schedule off days for the Stanley Cup Final.

Fisher emerged as the leading candidate for the job when Steve Kerr rejected the Knicks offer to become head coach and instead agreed to a five-year, $25 million deal with the Golden State Warriors.
Fisher played under Jackson with the Los Angeles Lakers and would follow the same path Jason Kidd did last year when he retired from the Knicks to become Nets head coach. Fisher and the Oklahoma City Thunder had their season end last month in the Western Conference Finals.
