Giants starter Tim Lincecum (7-5) followed up his no-hitter with eight shutout innings against the Cardinals Tuesday night.
San Francisco (47-36) defeated the St. Louis Cardinals (44-40) 5-0 behind their ace Lincecum, who faced a bases-loaded no-outs jam after giving up two base hits and hitting Yadier Molina. Lincecum gathered himself and escaped the inning with two strikeouts and a Daniel Descalso ground out to end the fourth inning.
The Cardinals offense was stagnant the rest of the game, and only mustered five hits on the night.
Third baseman Pablo Sandoval homered in the fourth inning, his 10th of the year and 100th of his career according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Sandoval went 2-for-3 and drew a walk.
Cardinals starter Marco Gonzales (0-1) gave up five runs and seven hits in just 4.1 innings Tuesday night. He also walked four and left the game with a 9.64 ERA.
The Giants' win snapped a four-game losing streak.
'It prevented us from getting down and [facing] an uphill climb,' Giants manager Bruce Bochy said after the win, reports MLB.com.
