Alice Cooper and Kiss pay tribute to late Lou Reed guitarist Dick Wagner
Wagner died in Phoenix, Arizona yesterday (July 30)
Dick Wagner, who played guitar for acts including Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, Kiss and more died on Wednesday (July 30) in Phoenix, Arizona.
The 71-year-old had been suffering from a lung infection following heart surgery in July. He died of respiratory failure while in a medically-induced coma.
Kiss member Paul Stanley paid tribute to 'a stellar player'. He said, in a statement: 'Dick was a stellar player and his work with Steve Hunter on Lou Reed's 'Rock N Roll Animal' is legendary. He also did great work with Alice Cooper and uncredited ghosting on [Kiss'] 'Destroyer' and albums by some of our contemporaries. A huge talent with a huge tone and huge heart. A great unsung hero.'
Alice Cooper described Wagner as 'irreplaceable', reports The Independent. Cooper said: 'Dick Wagner and I shared as many laughs as we did hit records... His brand of playing and writing is not seen any more, and there are very few people that I enjoyed working with as much as I enjoyed working with Dick Wagner. A lot of my radio success in my solo career had to do with my relationship with Dick Wagner. Not just onstage, but in the studio and writing. Some of my biggest singles were ballads that I wrote with Dick Wagner. Most of 'Welcome To My Nightmare' was written with Dick.'
Wagner also performed in the groups The Frost, Ursa Major and The Bossmen.
