Allegations of Overcharging U.S. Postal Service; HP to pay $32.5 Million for ...

Hewlett-Packard will be paying US$32.5 million to resolve accusations that it failed to fulfil the pricing terms and overbilled the U. S. Postal Service on a IT hardware contract between 2001 and 2010.

In the row, the U. S supposed that HP based in Palo Alto-based failed stick to the contract pricing terms with the Postal Service. The failed terms include an obligation that HP would provide the postal department with prices that were no more than those which were offered to the rest of its customers who had similar contracts.

The United States also supposes that HP tainted its pricing while negotiating the contract and its policy to make sure that it would bill at a rate of the most-favoured-customer price.

Overcharging by the company happened between the period October 2001 and December 2010.

The investigation was jointly conducted by the U. S. Postal Service, Office of the Inspector General and the Department of Justice's Civil Division.

On Friday the Justice Department said that the claims determined by the arrangement are till now only allegations and no determination of liability has been settled yet.
