OMG! Flappy Bird Is Back (Kinda)
Not only is it Friday, but we have some seriously good gaming news. Are you sitting down? Cause if not, you might want to.
Flappy Bird, the mobile sensation that was pulled from app stores back in February, is back. Kind of. Creator Dong Nguyen just dropped his latest creation: Flappy Birds Family, which features the same friendly birds and familiar green pipes you fell in love with earlier this year, plus an all-new two-player option.
Now, here's the bad news: it's only available in the Amazon Appstore for Android and only works with Amazon's Fire TV set-top box and the Fire Game Controller . There's no word as to whether Nguyen plans to bring it to Apple's App Store or Google Play, but we have our fingers crossed.
'Flappy Birds now are on Amazon Fire TV with incredible new features: Person vs Person mode, more obstacles, more fun and still very hard,' reads the game's description. 'Enjoy playing the game at home (not breaking your TV) with your family and friends.'
At this point, Flappy Birds Family only has three reviews but a solid 5 out of 5 stars. One reviewer noted that the new game 'is not as addictive as the original, and for that I am thankful!'
Nguyen has hinted at plans to re-release the addicting game, but said it would come with a warning against addictive gameplay. In a Rolling Stone interview, the developer said he pulled the game from app stores because the media attention was too overwhelming, and because he had received emails saying the game was so addicting that it caused people to lose their jobs and stop paying attention to their children.
'At first I thought they were just joking,' he said, 'but I realize they really hurt themselves.'
