Resident Evil remastered to return for next gen consoles

The Resident Evil series returns to its roots with a remastered version of the classic game that started it all way back in 1996.

Resident Evil had already seen a renewed lease of life when remastered back in 2002 and the new release promises a similar trick by remastering that very same 2002 version.

Game resolutions and textures have been vastly improved, with 1080p support on next-gen consoles. The audio has also been brought up to date, with sound effects available in 5:1 surround sound.

The control system has also been modernised, with the choice of classic Res Evil style or a more modern approach where the character moves directly in the direct of the analogue stick.

The story will be familiar to most gamers long-enough in the tooth. Choose either Jill Valentine or Chris Redfield, both members of S.T.A.R.S and survive in a mansion with limited ammo and plenty of monsters. Resident Evil was one of the first games to really crank up the fear by restricting supplies and making every single bullet count. There's no blasting wildly at zombies, this is all about letting them close enough for one bullet to do the job.

Resident Evil is due for release in 2015 on PS3, PS4, PC, Xbox One and Xbox360
