TV Ratings: 'Gracepoint' and NBC Comedies Open Low, 'Murder' Still Strong
Three more new series launched on Thursday night - and neither made much of an impression out of the gate. Live-plus-same day numbers have Fox's Gracepoint and all pulling low showings among adults 18-49.
The Fox drama, an update on a British series, scored a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49 and 4.8 million viewers. That showing would be easier to stomach if it wasn't a drop-off from its Bones lead-in. The procedural, steady with last week, fetched a 1.5 rating in the key demo. Gracepoint's success will now be determined by how many viewers find it on DVR and On Demand.
NBC's new shows at least managed to hold their lead-in from The Biggest Loser. Bad Judge, pulling a 1.3 adults rating and 5.9 million viewers, held Loser's demo score. While A to Z launched in the 9:30 p.m. time slot with a 1.2 in the demo and 4.8 million viewers. ( Parenthood pulled a 1.3 rating with adults under 50.)
Thursday's big retention watch was on How to Get Away With Murder. And after last week's huge premiere, and record-setting DVR lifts, the second episode was again the most-watched series of the night. (That, of course, does not include CBS' Thursday Night Football - which will easily top all broadcast once final ratings are in.) As for Murder, its demo showing dropped seventh-tenths of a point to a 3.2 rating. Its viewership went down to 11.8 million viewers.
That was enough to still top Grey's Anatomy (2.6 adults rating, down half of a point) and Scandal in audience, though Scandal (dropping six-tenths of a point) was still the demo champ with a 3.3 rating with the under 50 set.
The CW also launched its fall season on Thursday night with the return of The Vampire Diaries, which took a 0.9 rating among adults 18-49 and 1.8 million viewers. Down from last fall, it was improved from its recent finale. Reign's same-day showing might be more of a bummer. It only notched a 0.4 rating in the key demo at the top of its sophomore season.
Time-shifting projections to come...
