Whatever you do, don't call Barbara Walters retired.
The 85-year-old may have stepped down from The View panel in May, '[But I'm] not exactly slowing down,' she tells PEOPLE.
In addition to hosting her 10 Most Fascinating People special, airing Sunday on ABC, Walters says she's having no trouble filling her days.
'I'm working relatively little,' she says. 'I sleep until 9 o'clock some days! I go out to lunch with friends. I travel. When I was on The View I was working every day, so this is a very mild schedule for me.'
And it's a well-deserved change of pace for the legendary journalist, who first gained national fame as a correspondent on the Today show in 1962.
'I'm so fortunate to have been doing this for so many years,' Walters says. 'I would've had to be out of my mind to think that would happen.'
Not that she's ready to walk away from her former day job entirely.
Walters still serves as co-executive producer on the ABC daytime talk show and has made it clear she will return to The View as guest or host whenever she gets the itch.
'They can't turn me down,' she says with a laugh. 'They have to have me on.'
Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2014 airs Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
