The Houston Texans haven't had much luck with their quarterbacks this year, and that trend continued on Sunday, when Ryan Fitzpatrick went down against Indianapolis.
Tania Ganguli of ESPN reported on the injury:
Ryan Fitzpatrick is leaving the field on a cart. Rookie Tom Savage takes over at QB. #Texans

Bob Kravitz of WTHR.com described the scene before Fitzpatrick left on the cart:
Bad stuff for Fitzpatrick. Put an air cast on his leg, called for the cart immediately. #ColtsWTHR

Fitzpatrick was immediately ruled out for the game by the Texans.
Throughout his career, Fitzpatrick has been a solid if unspectacular QB. A journeyman with a gunslinger's mentality, he is a smart player but has never had elite physical abilities. His numbers this season haven't been enough to calm the hordes waiting outside NRG Stadium calling for the Texans to swap out quarterbacks.
Things bottomed out after a 33-28 home defeat to the Indianapolis Colts. Fitzpatrick went 15-of-23 for 212 yards and one touchdown. His fumble on Houston's final drive of the fourth quarter sealed the result, though.

The Texans eventually named Ryan Mallett as the starter ahead of their Week 10 bye. A few weeks later, Mallett went down for the season with a torn pectoral muscle. That meant Fitzpatrick assumed his old role as the starter.
Houston's playoff chances are hanging by a thread at the moment, and losing Fitzpatrick might serve as the tipping point.
