Gawker Releases Amy Pascal's Fiery Email Exchange With Producer Scott Rudin

In the latest turn in the Sony hacking drama, a fiery email exchange detailing the backstage fight over the studio's Steve Jobs biopic was posted online on Tuesday by Gawker.

The leaked emails between Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chairman Amy Pascal and producer Scott Rudin range from Feb. 27, 2014 to Nov. 19, 2014, according to images of the emails posted on the gossip website. The Steve Jobs biopic, written by Aaron Sorkin, ended up at Universal late last month after Sony couldn't agree on financing terms.

One email posted on Gawker from February centers on director David Fincher, who was originally set to direct Jobs, and Angelina Jolie. Jolie is attached to star in Cleopatra, another Sony property. The emails, as Gawker writer Sam Biddle reported, show Pascal and Rudin in disagreement over Jolie's apparent interest in having Fincher direct Cleopatra, versus Jobs.

Rudin also had harsh words for Annapurna founder Megan Ellison, who wanted in on financing the Jobs movie.

And when Jobs landed at Universal, the tone turned especially ugly between Rudin and Pascal. 'I have worked something out with you with Universal and whether or not you take it is up to you -- but so we are clear, I am done being your advocate here as you don't deserve one exhalation of breathe on your behalf,' Rudin wrote to Pascal, as quoted by Gawker.

According to emails posted on Gawker, Pascal then suggested that Sony terminate Rudin's lucrative, longtime deal with the studio (the two boast a 30-year friendship, including making The Social Network together).

The cyber-attack on Sony Pictures Entertainment, by a group that calls itself the Guardians of Peace, has snowballed since Nov. 24. The attack has spurred speculation that the North Korean regime hacked the studio in retaliation for the forthcoming comedy, The Interview, due to a storyline that revolves around the assassination of leader Kim Jong Un. The attack prompted an ongoing FBI investigation.
