The Baltimore Ravens' playoff push took a major hit Thursday as it was announced that star defensive lineman Haloti Ngata has been suspended four games for violating the NFL's policy against performance-enhancing drugs.

Ngata's suspension was officially announced on the team's Twitter account:

According to Luke Jones of WNST.net, the five-time Pro Bowler admitted to taking the banned stimulant Adderall:

Per Mike Garafolo of FoxSports.com, Ngata was regretful for his actions, while Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome expressed disappointment as well.

The 30-year-old Ngata has long been the anchor of Baltimore's defensive line, and he is a big reason why the Ravens allow just 86 yards per game on the ground.

Baltimore is currently ninth in the AFC, although it is tied with the Miami Dolphins and four other teams for the final playoff spot from a record standpoint at 7-5.

The Ravens don't play a team with a record of better than 7-5 in any of their final four games, but they will undoubtedly be a challenge without Ngata.

If they can find a way to qualify for the postseason, however, they will receive a huge boost since Ngata will be eligible to return when the regular season concludes.
