Pandora App Overhaul Focuses on Personalization
Good news, Pandora users. Your radio stations are about to get a lot more personal.
The music-streaming company on Tuesday announced revamped iPhone and Android apps with a new user interface and station personalization features. At this point, the update is only available in beta to 3 percent of users, but Pandora said it will reach all mobile and tablet listeners over the coming months, and has offered a peek at what to expect.
For starters, there's a new thumbs-up Personalization icon at the top right of the 'Now Playing' screen. Tapping the button will take you to a new station details screen where you can look at your listening history and view the number of thumbs ups and thumbs downs you gave for that station. From here, you can adjust your feedback for previously listened-to tracks through a new 'un-thumbing' capability, and re-name the station.
If you accidentally thumb down a song, you can now simply go back and change it to a thumbs up.
'The principles of simplicity and clarity serve as the heart of the evolved design,' the Pandora team wrote in a blog post. 'Listener feedback, through thumbing, is integral to personalization on Pandora so we've increased the visual recognition around thumbing songs.'
Plus, if you want to learn more about the song you're listening to, simply tap the song or artist's name to see more information.
Besides that, Pandora has added a number of new transitions and animations aimed at helping you more easily navigate the app. You'll now see the station name on the Now Playing screen, for instance.
'We hope these latest updates help our listeners further personalize their stations and discover more music and artists they love,' the team said.
