Air Force Academy to resume athletic competitions
Air Force's Thursday night game vs. San Diego State in Colorado Springs, Colo., will happen, according to an announcement from the Air Force Academy. The status of the game and other service academy sports had been in question because of the Federal government shutdown.
A release from the school reads:
The Academy is awaiting written final Department of Defense guidance, however, we have been advised that all Air Force Academy intercollegiate athletics may resume immediately. We owe it to our cadet athletes and opponents to honor our commitments in this regard. Athletics is one of the pillars of character and leadership development at the Air Force Academy. No appropriated funds will be used to fund these programs.
According to Mike May, a spokesman for San Diego State, the Aztecs' equipment truck left campus on Tuesday morning. The team was scheduled to take a charter flight to Colorado Springs this morning.
