Colin Farrell has confirmed he will be joining the cast of 'True Detective' in its second season.

The Irish actor, 38, confirmed the casting news in an interview with The Sunday World newspaper, saying he is 'excited' to be joining the critically acclaimed HBO drama - the Irish Independent reports.

'I know it will be eight episodes and take around for our five months to shoot,' he told the paper.

'I know very little about it, but we're shooting it in the environs of Los Angeles, which is great. It means I get to stay home and see the kids.'

In addition to Farrell, other big names rumored to be vying for roles include Taylor Kitsch, Vince Vaughan, Elisabeth Moss and Rachel McAdams. Showrunners previously confirmed 'True Detective' will feature an entirely new cast and story line in its second season.

The network garnered several Emmy Award nominations for the drama's first season, including for its lead actors Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, and director Cary Joji Fukunaga.

HBO has not confirmed the latest casting reports, but creator Nic Pizzolatto told The Daily Beast in July that the new season will have four lead roles and be set in California.
