High-flying Broncos back at it

Demaryius Thomas

Peyton Manning will be linked to Andrew Luck for as long as he's still playing football, creating plenty of buzz when the two match up on the field. That happens in the first Sunday night game of the 2014 NFL season, as the Indianapolis Colts visit the Denver Broncos (8:30 p.m. ET, NBC ).

After the offensive onslaught the Broncos led through the league in 2013, it's no surprise Manning is on the LVH SuperBook's props board at 2.5 touchdowns. Before you write off three passing scores as a foregone conclusion for Manning, consider he's without Eric Decker, who left via free agency, and Wes Welker, who is suspended for the first four games. Emmanuel Sanders replaced Decker and looked good in the preseason, but that's preseason. Of course, Demaryius Thomas (OVER/UNDER 89.5 receiving yards) is still around and will likely get a heavy dose of targets.

Luck has been very strong over his first two years, but the general consensus is that there is another gear in his game that we'll get to see sooner rather than later. The task may be tough against a Bronco defense that looks strong on paper, but the LVH is still setting his passing yardage at 272.5 -- a mark he only surpassed four times in 2013. Before you get scared off, though, there is talk that Colts offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton is willing to shift more attention to the passing game, and with a solid stable of pass catchers, the situation could be ripe for a true Luck breakout.

For what it's worth, Manning threw for 386 yards and three TDs (one to D. Thomas, who collected 82 receiving yards) in his Week 7 meeting at Indianapolis last season. Luck had three TD passes of his own while collecting 228 passing yards.
