Emma Watson Nude Photos A Hoax Within A Hoax?
(TRNS)- It's like the Inception of internet hoaxes.
Claims that members of the message board site 4 Chan were threatening to reveal nude photographs of actress Emma Watson online were apparently a hoax that, in turn, led to an additional hoax.
Watson delivered a stirring address to the United Nations on Saturday urging gender equality. Shortly after, the website EmmaYouAreNext bearing the 4 Chan logo appeared online with a countdown clock.
When accessed Wednesday, the site redirects to the website Rantic.com and instead of the countdown, the site now features an open letter to President Barack Obama urging him to take action against the controversial site.
'We have been hired by celebrity publicists to bring this disgusting issue to attention. The recent 4chan celebrity nude leaks in past 2 months have been an invasion of privacy and is also clear indication that the internet NEEDS to be censored,' the letter states.
But the site itself seems fishy, to say the least. The invocation of nameless 'celebrity publicists' as well as the drastic call that the 'internet NEEDS to be censored' left some scratching their heads.
In addition, the site urges users to click on a link to send the letter to the White House. When the link it accessed, however, it leads to a site with the text 'The page you are looking for cannot be found.'
According to the DailyDot, Rantic.com is a fake front for another group of online pranksters, SocialVevo, who have previously dooped the media into reporting on false video game and television show rumors.
