Raiders rookie quarterback Derek Carr will make his first career start on Sunday. Carr has performed impressively in the preseason and already some senior players are backing him up for the start.
Receiver James Jones said,
'He's really calm, really cool in the pocket. He acts like he's been there before. I've been calling him mini A-Rod [Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers] since he got here.'
Center Stefen Wisniewski also praised on Carr,
'He's not your typical rookie. He's got an NFL quarterback older brother that's been teaching him for years. He understands defenses at a very advanced level more than most rookies would. I think Derek gets way more prepared than most rookies would be,' Stefen said.
For the Jets, QB Geno Smith will be a key factor. He was struggling with 21 interceptions and 12 touchdowns during the last season. But New York head coach Rex Ryan believes Smith will shine in his second season.
'He has worked so hard in the offseason to get to where he is right now,' Ryan said.
'Now, it's just going out and do it. He's got confidence. The whole team's got confidence in him. Take off from where you left off. That's all you need to do.'
New York's secondary, however, is in confusing state. Dee Milliner, the team's top pick is out with a high ankle sprain.
Darrin Walls and Antonio Allen will see the majority of playing time.
'I feel pretty good with my preparation,' said Allen. Went out there and had a decent day (Tuesday) ... just competed well, and hopefully I can do that in the game.'
'I wouldn't say I'm comfortable,' he added, 'but I'm getting there.'
