Phishing on e
There's a breach, and this time, we're talking about e-commerce business eBay Inc., one of the largest online retail stores in the world. According to BBC, they discovered a flaw with eBay's website and rules about item listing that could lead to credit cards being stolen. This flaw has been affecting customers since February of this year, and only now that it was revealed on mainstream news.
The article claims that some third-party sellers posted links using JavaScript on their eBay pages, and this links redirect users to sites that sometimes look similar to eBay. This scheme is called 'phishing' and people who are caught unaware might login to these fake sites and give hackers their personal information including their address, credit card information or PayPal account.
I should note that eBay's servers were not hacked, however, some people who are trying to steal money from consumers have found an easy way to scam shoppers. The popular retailer said they're already working hard to clean their listing.
This is yet another problem that is giving eBay Inc. a harder time. The e-commerce company is on the verge of facing a new rivals that could shrink its e-commerce and online payment market share - and these new rivals include tech giants Apple, and Google. The latter recently updated its search algorithm to show fewer eBay posts. This algorithm update is called 'Panda 4.0' and it removed at least 80 percent of eBay's total top listings off the Google's search results according to the Business Insider.
And just lately, Apple unveiled the Apple Pay system, a wireless service which lets iPhone users to pay either within a supported mobile application or in physical stores by just by placing their phones near a dedicated sensor, or using Touch ID for the apps.
Analysts believe that Apple will expand this system from apps and third-party physical retailers - to online stores which are currently using PayPal as one of the payment options. It's also worth sharing that Google is also offering a similar payment service called Google Wallet. The search giant also offers a search engine tab dedicated to shopping, but it includes eBay as one of the shopping sites.
