James Paxton vs. C.J. Wilson.
For the Mariners' last national broadcast of the regular season, James Paxton and C.J. Wilson will compete for the series lead.
Paxton battled against the A's last week for his sixth win of the year, allowing three walks in one inning, then coming back to strike out a season-high eight batters in six innings. Over three starts this month, the 25-year-old has limited his opponents to four earned runs and zero homers, despite lingering control problems that have seen eight walks in 19 2/3 innings pitched.
Speaking of control problems, Angels' right-hander C.J. Wilson holds the highest walk rate of any qualified American League starter, at 4.17 walks per nine innings. In September, he's meted out eight walks over just 14 2/3 innings, while allowing 10 earned runs and striking out 16 batters. Fortunately for Wilson, he's also received an outrageous average of 9.3 runs of support per outing, thanks to two blowouts against the Astros and Twins.
