Houston Astros manager Bo Porter was fired by the organization on Monday, opening the door for former Oklahoma City RedHawks interim manager Tom Lawless, who was named as his replacement on an interim basis.
Lawless, who is a roving infield instructor for the Houston Astros, filled in as manager of the RedHawks when manager Tony DeFrancesco was undergoing cancer treatments this summer. In 2013, Lawless spent homestands in Oklahoma City with the RedHawks and road trips working with infielders at Houston's other minor league affiliates.
As recently as this weekend, there was reported tension between Porter and Houston general manager Jeff Luhnow.
Porter went 110-190 (.367) in two seasons as Astros manager. Houston is currently 59-79, fourth in the American League West.
