Angels Designate Southpaw Wade LeBlanc For Assignment, Call Up Grube
According to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times, left-handed pitcher Wade LeBlanc has been designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Angels.
LeBlanc, 29, pitched 6 1/3 innings in relief of starter Garrett Richards in Friday's 9-5 loss against the Oakland Athletics. LeBlanc allowed six hits, two walks and four runs (two homers) while striking out four batters. Due to the amount of innings he pitched, LeBlanc was unlikely to be available out of the bullpen for a few days. That was probably a deciding factor in the Angels decision to designate him for assignment.
LeBlanc is out of minor-league options, so the Angels are unable to send him down to Triple-A Salt Lake unless he clears waivers. The likelihood of LeBlanc clearing waivers and being sent down to Triple-A is slim due to his success in the Pacific Coast League (Triple-A) and his prior Major League experience.
In a corresponding move, the Los Angeles Angels called up 32-year-old right-handed pitcher Jarrett Grube from Triple-A Salt Lake. Grube - who has yet to pitch a game in the Majors - went 3-2 with a 3.52 ERA in 61 1/3 innings pitched (11 starts) in Triple-A this season. He also struck out 51 batters.
